Microsoft Office for iOS

I am happy. Seeing Microsoft finally putting out a version of the office standard Microsoft Office Suite is a big sigh of relief for someone like me who is trying to convince traditionalists that iPad is good investment for education.

In Japan, a high 99% majority of schools use Windows machines and use Microsoft Office. Most school ITs know little of, laugh off, and take little if any consideration or interest of Apple or its line of devices. Most teachers and admins I work with still don’t understand how I can work with Office files and do productive work using a Macintosh, despite having Office on my machine. And now, I have it on my iPad!

Now, I have no plans in subscribing to Office 365, because I can still make great documents, spreadsheets and slideshow presentations with Apple’s free iWork suite, and even export it to the appropriate office file format when necessary, but having the Office apps on my iPad allows me the opportunity to only only open and view files in its native app, but also assure to the traditionalists that I do in fact have and use and understand Microsoft Office… despite it not being a Windows machine.
