It is not about now, but more about what now will become. I think this is a philosophy that IT departments in schools need to understand. Being approved for budgets, purchasing equipment, setting up equipment… It takes time, and usually by the time the doors are ready to open on that new computer lab, the OS is outdated, upgrades are already being offered, new viruses are developed… The list goes on, causing a sparkling new system to go obsolete rather quickly. We need to be looking 5 years ahead, and ask ourselves, “what is to become?” And plan our school’s IT around that strategy. Only then do I believe that our schools can keep up with the speed of the market.
